How to Hide a Tummy
So many women tell me their tummy is the one area they want to camouflage—and trust me, you're not alone. The right clothing can create a flattering silhouette and help you feel confident every time you get dressed.
First, choose clothing that draws attention to your legs, hips, shoulders, neckline and face. Therefore, v-neck tops, shorter statement necklaces, unique earrings and patterned scarfs draw the eye up.
And, when choosing skirts, pants, and dresses, remember heavier fabrics slide over the bumps and curves, particularly when paired with the correct tops.
Choose tops/dresses that are fitted on top and float away from the body. That means they must be slightly loose and drapey. Tops and dresses should slide over the body, not hug it. And, those tops should hit the top of your hip. A wrap dress or top is my top pick. I also like tops and dresses that have pleats, ruffles and lace. Graphic prints on a top and dress also confuse the eye and thus disguise.
The rule of thumb is to not tuck your top in, unless that top is oversized and once tucked in can be pulled out enough to disguise. Wearing jackets, vests, kimonos and cardigans also camouflage a belly, as long as those accessories are not boxy.
When choosing pants and jeans, those with a straight leg or slight flare are your best friend. Here is the rule of thumb. Put those pants/jeans on and if the fabric goes straight down from the widest part of your hip, then they are a perfect fit. You want the fabric to float away from the hips, not hug them.
Wearing high heels are another great option, as once again you are elongating your legs, and thus disguising the belly. Colorful shoes also draw the eye away from your midsection.
Among the perfect skirt options are pencil skirts, tulip skirts, and midi and maxi skits with pleats. Patterned pants and skirts are a great option as long as they follow the rules stated above, and are paired with a solid neutral black, white or gray that also follow the rules of thumb.
Just remember, you are a wonderful woman, not defined by a specific body part!
